Bug Description

the currently used ixp4xx kernel used under debian-installer on the NSLU2 makes the device run out of RAM and kills d-i with an OOM scheduler error.

using the identical set of d-i modules the system uses 5M more than the debian 2.6.26 lenny kernel, it needs to be examined what kernel features can be disabled in ubuntus 2.6.28 kernel to save the extra amount of RAM we use.

I have tried to use the netboot image dated 21st Feb on my NSLU2 and when it detects hardware/disks my ssh connection suddenly gets dropped and an unexpected error message.

This seems to be the same problem which Iam seeing.

How do i get this config file to work with the installer?

Thanks

Andy

Just tried with the latest build from today, and the same is happening, but this time it is not getting past the base installer progress indicator.

On build 19 from 21st it was to detecting hardware before it dumped out of the SSH shell.

a working d-i image should be downloadable now under:
http://ports.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-ports/dists/jaunty/main/installer-armel/20081029ubuntu21/images/ixp4xx/netboot/
please note that there is an issue with the language pack that tries to generate all locales (which takes about 50min per locale so extends teh instal time to several hours) a fix was committed to localechooser but wont make the alpha5 release.

Can confirmed the original issue has been fixed, iam now installing this as we speak.

Did spot that it took ages to get past the Local area, I have gone through expert mode and only got 1 local chosen so did take a little while as looked like crashed, but then went one.

Thanks

When Iam installing the latest di-nslu2.bin for Jaunty on my nslu2 iam getting all the way through to the end and when it is finishing the instillation at the end it just seems to leave a blue blank screen at the end and not report the instillation is complete.

Should i be leaving it longer,or has me NSLU2 frozen up?

On the initial instillation should I be including any additional modules for the instillation to help or can I also leave these all blank?

Just one final question, should one of the last menu option in expert mode say "Countinue Without Bootloader" or should one have been installed?

Thanks

Andy
