Bug Description

If you change networks by swapping the RJ45 cable, Ubuntu retains the same IP on the old network and doesn't recognise it has been switched until you enter the network settings window and disable then re-enable the network adapter. Only then will it update the IP. IMO it should automatically get a new IP if you change networks in a similar behaviour to other major OS's

I don't know if I should add this here, or start a fresh report...?
In relation to holding on to an old IP, I've experianced this, with a powerloss, 2x.

The GUI, offers no reset/adjustment by user.
I haven't found info, as yet, anywhere, even for commandline fix.

I thought a GUI like this, might be a fix.
My first attempt & I'm totally newbie to how to continue this.

Can I just add that the 'Enable This Connection' checkbox appears to be entirely redundant. Its duplicated functionality at best, as you can disable/enable the adapter in the parent menu already and I can't see a reason you'd want to use it. I think a 'Renew IP' button is much more deserving of the space.

While we're on the subject (I am not sure its appropriate here but nm) but it would be nice, when the network adapter is in DHCP mode, if it displayed the IP it was allocated (and netmask/gateway) in the IP Address boxes. In a light grey probably so it doesn't look like its editable but just for informational puposes as it is one of the first places people come to look for that information (I did anyway) and the alternate ways of finding ip info (bash->ifconfig, and the network toolbar icon) are not always easily discoverable.

Yeah, Thats something I forget to mention, and feel should be added.
Having the option to "Reset/Release", and "seeing" the change- is good for Users to have access to.
If any User needs to know that information~ its clear on where to go & clear on what it is...simple!
I recieved a reply at bugzilla, no much...but its been noticed.

Adding your thoughts, there also, might help...or mail the Developers.?!
