sandisk USB mp3-player [fat] won't automount

Bug Description

I can pmount the player manually, and it works fine. But it doesn't mount automatically when I plug it in.

2.6.12 is Breezy, I think. .10 was Hoary. I wasn't around that long ago though, so I'm not sure.

The question is whether or not its been fixed in recent updates of the kernel.

I don't use ubuntu anymore so I can't say. Haven't used it in quite some
time.

Am experiencing a similar problem in Feisty Final with my Transcend T.sonic 610 MP3 player. Device connection is recognized and processed, but Gnome does not reveal device or make an attempt to mount it. Player can be mounted as vfat volume /dev/sda1. Gnome does recognize and mount other USB storage - specifically, three flash sticks and one USB hard drive. See attached system output.
