Switch User should be disabled when not running under GDM

Bug Description

When attempting to use "Switch User" function within Edubuntu/LTSP environment, error message states "You do not seem to be logged in on the console" message details "Starting a new login only works correctly on the console" - this is because "Switch User" requires GDM and Edubuntu/LTSP commonly uses LDM for a login manager.

Note: the original reporter indicated the bug was in package 'gnome-desktop'; however, that package was not published in Ubuntu.

FUSA is looking for stuff in gdm.conf and as LDM != GDM, we need to figure out a way to disable user switching.

from where do you try to switch user? From the screensaver dialog? from the session dialog? from the fast-switch-user-applet?

I had only tried it from the arrow/door applet to switch user/log off.

I removed fast-switch-user-applet. The option still appears when clicking System->Quit from an LTSP/LDM terminal - For my users I'd rather remove the option entirely; it is not used and having the button there makes them think "hey what's this let me click it"

using: Ubuntu 8.04 w/ LTSP5 installed from alternate CD

We were wondering if this is still an issue for you. Can you try with the latest Ubuntu release? Thanks in advance.
