Bug Description

When the newest kernel was released in Karmic nvidia-glx-173 fails to load properly.
This is on a Jaunty upgrade to Karmic. Removing and purging the drivers and everything related to nvidia than installing *-173 still fails to run.
I will attach a few files to bug report.
Its failing to load kernel modules from what i saw while failing to load GDM.
If i had to guess it is due to nvidia drivers had failed to build or have not been updated for 2.6.30 yet.

Version: 173.14.16-0ubuntu1
kernel: 2.6.30-5

This still happens with kernel 2.6.30.6

I have tried a few things including
using jockey to install the nvidia-glx-173
re-installing drivers a few times.
Installing xserver-xorg-video-nouveau version 1:0.0.10~git+20090404+11be9a9-0ubuntu1

I'm running out of ideas at this time.

using same xorg.conf did not help

Seems to be missing *-restricted-modules for 2.6.30* from what apt search and synaptic are showing me. However why wouldnt everyone with non free drivers see this bug not just nvidia drivers

173.14.16 is now "legacy"
180 won't find any supported gpu for fx 4 / 5 series.

Kaltsi's comment is correct and helpful. I was able to install the current .20 driver from NVIDIA (linked in his comment) on 2.6.31-2-generic.

This was helpful information about installing the driver through DKMS, so that subsequent updates re-build the kernel module: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1036788
