Bug Description

Binary package hint: xfce4-panel

I'm using xfce4-panel on Xubuntu 9.04.

> apt-cache policy xfce4-panel
xfce4-panel:
  Installed: 4.6.0-1ubuntu1
  Candidate: 4.6.0-1ubuntu1
  Version table:
 *** 4.6.0-1ubuntu1 0
        500 http://nz.archive.ubuntu.com jaunty/universe Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

The panel displays Task List (left hand side) and Workspace Switcher (right hand side). If I create another task, it is added to the task list on the panel as an icon. The task list slowly extends towards Workspace Switcher. I would expect that the width of the icons in the task list on the panel would decrease as soon as all available space is used by Task List and a new task is added.

Instead, Task List pushes Workspace Switcher away to the right and the last task icon added is incomplete. If I add more tasks, Workspace Switcher disappears completely.

I've installed xfce4-panel 4.6.2-1ubuntu1 and I still see the same erroneous behaviour. When I open more applications the panel fills up from the left and pushes Workspace Switcher out of the way. If I open even more applications I can't see them appearing anymore on the panel. The behaviour is exactly the same as in the image I attached earlier (at 2009-05-25).
I'm using two displays and xfce4-panel occupies the bottom position of my first display (the left one), the other display doesn't have the panel.

I can't reproduce on karmic with a single display, so I guess this may be related to multiple displays, reopening.

Hi Charlie and Lionel,

The problem has also gone away in Lucid for a double display - the task icons now reduce their size to fit the task list

Thanks very much!
