Bug Description

AisleRiot 2.14.0, Ubuntu Dapper

1. From the "View" menu, choose "Cards...".
2. If the current selection is "paris", change it to "bonded".
3. Change the selection to "paris".

What should happen:
* The card pattern switches to "paris" as quickly as it changes to "bonded", i.e. within 0.5 seconds.

What actually happens:
* The card pattern takes about 14 seconds (!) to switch, and during that time AisleRiot is completely unresponsive.

The speed up fix, makes it a slight bit faster - but I don't consider it 'fixed'

 gnome-games (1:2.14.1-0ubuntu1) dapper; urgency=low

   * New upstream release:
     - The nightfall theme in Four-in-a-row now uses the correct graphics.
     - Minor corrections to the Mines documentation.
     - Fix a double-loading bug in the card-images code. (Halves the load-time
       for SVG card themes!). (Malone: #38445)
   * debian/patches/fix-gnect-nightfall-theme.patch:
     - dropped, accepted Upstream.
   * debian/patches/10_fix-ka.po-and_dz.po-translations.patch:
     - remove broken translation strings.
   * debian/patches/01_lpi.patch:
     - added missing #include

The problem appears to be related to more than just switching card types. The window is also slow to redraw when maximizing or returning to default size (an approximate 5 second delay before redraw on my machine).

Any time the cards are redrawn (startup, theme change, window size), all 52 cards are redrawn at once. I'm working a new method of drawing upstream.

Using AisleRiot 2.30.0, I clicked on the "View" menu and found no option to change the card theme. I check the other menus and no option appeared there either.
This renders this bug "unable to reproduce".
