Please plug in the disk and copy&paste the output of "devkit-disks --dump". Thanks!

Thanks. Seems I can reproduce this as well now.

The fun thing is that gvfs asks for a password, but if I open a Terminal and do "devkit-disks --mount /dev/sdb1" it works without a password. Can you confirm this?

Confirmed:

$ devkit-disks --mount /dev/sdb1
Mounted /org/freedesktop/DeviceKit/Disks/devices/sdb1 at /media/49DC-AFA8

works, no password prompt.

I couldn't reproduce this in a while with the current gvfs. Do you still have this problem in current karmic?

Yes, still a problem for me on completely updated current karmic.

Possibly related in the general sense of misdetecting media attributes - I'm offered in the desktop right click menu the choices to "Unmount" (good) or "Eject" (insane!) my usb flash disk.

Though the mental image of my usb stick being forcibly ejected from the side of my computer is amusing :-)

I can also confirm the problem still exists, gvfs 1.3.1-0ubuntu3.

Any additional info/testing required? I can still reproduce this every time.

Right, indeed I still sometimes get it as well. Usually, if you cancel the dialog and reattempt mounting a second time, it works.

I'm not sure if this bug is related to what I am experiencing, but every time I boot I get prompted for a password for another partition on the machine. I did not ask for this partition to be mounted and it is not in /etc/fstab. I am running karmic alpha 32-bit.

I'm not getting this problem anymore. Is this the case for others as well?

komputes, your problem is bug 396448. I cannot reproduce this issue here any more either.

I could reproduce this before as well, but not any more, just as the other reporters. I guess it was fixed in devicekit-disks 006. I close this now, please let me know if you can still reproduce this. If so, please do "ubuntu-bug", select the "storage device" symptom, and report a new bug, so that I can see the necessary debugging information.

Thanks!

I still have this problem with Karmic fully updated and devicekit-disks version 007.
