Do you find that the updates are detected and displayed on NotifyOSD but not in the gwibber client?

OK, same here. I have seen some earlier bugs of a similar nature.

My theory is that the backend to the web services is working fine (i.e. no problem with gwibber itself), but there is something wrong with the webkit frontend that displays the updates.

I was having the same issue, but I think I found the solution. The package python-webkit was installed at version 1.1.5-0~jjwkt1 by downgrading to 1.0.1-1ubuntu1 everything worked again.

It seems that there is no edit button and I just realized that I had the version slightly wrong. My previous comment should say that the version of python-webkit should be 1.0.2-1ubuntu1

I have a clean install of Karmic alpha 2 and can confirm gwibber is not displaying messages for me either. As reported by others Notify OSD is showing updates, but they still do not appear in the gwibber panel.
