Bug Description

Binary package hint: subcommander

I installed subcommander using synaptic. In the manual pages (after executing "man subcommander"), I read:

SEE ALSO

The file /usr/share/doc/subcom-mander/html/index.htm does not exist.

Thank you for reporting this bug. I installed the subcommander package in Xubuntu 9.04, and found that the "subcommander-doc" package is a suggested package to be installed. Since it is suggested, it does not install with the subcommander application. After installing subcommander-doc, the /usr/share/doc/subcommander/html/index.html does exist.

Please install the subcommander-doc package and comment back here if it works.

Thanks again for helping improve Ubuntu.

After installing the subcommander-doc package, it did work.
Still, think it's an inconsistency having the man page in the subcommander package and the rest of the documentation in the subcommander-doc package.

One possible solution to this bug would be to refer to the subcommander-doc package in the man page (while keeping the path of the html file in the man page as well - some users wouldn't know where to find the documentation after installing the doc package).

subcommander-doc needs to be a recommends instead of suggested.

Request the necessary changes be made to make 'subcommander-doc' a recommends when installing 'subcommander'.

Thanks you.

Should I provide more information on this issue? Or why has it been set to incomplete again?

subcommander-doc is still listed as suggested in both Ubuntu 9.10 and Lucid. I am nominating this as a papercut in hopes it can be changed.

hank you for bringing this bug to our attention. However, a paper cut should be a small usability issue , in the default Ubuntu 9.10 install , that affects many people and is quick and easy to fix. So this bug can't be addressed as part of the project.

The application subcommander is not a default Ubuntu installed app.
For further info about papercuts criteria , pls read > https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PaperCut

Don't worry though, This bug has been marked as "invalid" ONLY in the papercuts project.

This bug was fixed in the package subcommander - 2.0.0~b5p2-3

---------------
subcommander (2.0.0~b5p2-3) unstable; urgency=low

  * 96-format-error.patch: new patch to fix compilation error when hardening
    options are turned on.
  * 11-srcdir.patch: new patch to make it possible to call configure from
    outside of the source dir.
  * debian/rules: simplify the file and use dh-autoreconf instead of cow-based
    build tree.
  * debian/control:
    + Standards-Version: 3.9.2 (no changes);
    + remove build-dependency on fl-cow, add dh-autoreconf instead;
    + replace libbost1.42-dev with libboost1.46-dev in build-dependencies;
    + move docbook-xsl and xsltproc to Build-Depends-Indep;
    + fix spelling typo in descriptions (lintian);
    + reformat the dependency fields with wrap-and-sort command;

subcommander (2.0.0~b5p2-2) unstable; urgency=low

  * Upload to unstable.
  * debian/rules:
    + add support for build-arch, build-indep targets;

  * Move man pages from debian to debian/man.
  * The menu entry has been available for at least 2 years (LP: #217652).

  * Mention in the man pages that `The Subcommander Guide' is available
    in subcommander-doc (LP: #398509). Also add a link from subcommander-doc

  * New upstream release:
  * Remove no longer needed patches 91-FTBFS-svn-props and 93-edit-crash.
