I get the exact same error, and my iPod is an 80 GB, which has always worked on jaunty.
Also, Banshee cannot read it as it is 'not mounted by HAL' (but I assume that's just because Nautilus is unable to mount it).

I would like to gather a bit more data on this. Can you attach the output of "sudo fdisk -l /dev/sdb" (given sdb is the iPod)? In general, I see unsuccessful mounts of the first partition, which might not be the one containing the data (thus the question for the fdisk data). And you might verify directly whether "sudo mount /dev/sdb2 /mnt" works and yields the data under /mnt.

Yes, you are right, I can mount sdb2 partition, it is automatically mounted at /media/IPOD but it still not detected in Banshee. Maybe this bug is another one, not sure if it's related.

Right, apparently sdb1 is a system partition. I don't have an iPod myself, but as far as I remember the second one is the interesting one. After plugging in the iPod, can you please give me the output of "mount" (copy&paste here) and then do

  devkit-disks --dump > /tmp/dk.txt
  udevadm info --export-db > /tmp/udev.txt

and attach /tmp/dk.txt and /tmp/udev.txt here? Thanks!

Martin Pitt (pitti) wrote :

Also, this bug is "unable to mount iPod with nautilus", i. e. it doesn't get automounted at all. Is that really the case for all reporters here? Or was the confusion just that the first partition is shown in GNOME, although it shouldn't? That can be rectified after I get the information from the previous comment.

So to untangle this a bit, there seem to be two problems here:

 (1) first partition is shown in GNOME, but should be hidden
 (2) iPod is not recognized in banshee

Does that accurately describe the situation for all of you? Can you check whether it is detected in rhythmbox?

I checked and it works with rhythmbox. I could tranfer music.
Maybe the problem of this bug is only related with the 80gb

Also the Banshee problem has to be related only with Banshee

Martin Pitt (pitti) wrote :

Arnau,

so it seems you have a different problem than the original one here; can you please file two new bugs, one against banshee about not showing the ipod, and one against devicekit-disks about not hiding the first partition on your ipod? Please attach the two files (dk.txt and udev.txt) at the devicekit-disks bug. Please also include the output of

  gvfs-mount -li

after the iPod got mounted. Thanks!

For the nautilus and Bashee stuff we should by now having different bugs. As for the kernel part. The invalid first partition is a true statement, as it is invalid and only the second one is containing data. So I am closing this bug as invalid for the kernel.

Stefan et al,

I am having the same problem with 9.10 amd64 and gtkpod. My iPod is Nano (the white one) firmware 1.3.1, formatted for Windows.
Can you redirect me to the other bug created for Nautilus/Banshee/devicekit-disks?
I am guessing maybe actually devicekit-disks is the guilty one?!?
