Thank you for reporting this to Ubuntu. I was not able to reproduce this on Jaunty unless I launched from the command line and the terminal I launched from was in the foreground when I press CTRL + C, which is the correct behavior.
How did you launch Firefox? What window was on top when you hit the control sequence? Can you reproduce this repeatedly?

I only have seen this incident in karmic.
-Open firefox-3.5 in any way.
-Click on any part of the web page (out of a text box).
-Press Ctrl + C.
Firefox then closes normally. It is because Ctrl + C combination is asigned to "Close tab" action by default, if you have multiple tabs open, it only closes current tab. But most users will expect that Ctrl + C will copy the selected text in the web page to clipboard.

CTRL + C is the copy hotkey. CTRL + W is the close tab hotkey. Could you have a corrupt profile possibly? Please try a new profile and let us know if that helps. You don't need to delete your old profile to test.

firefox-3.5 -ProfileManager

I had someone attempt to reproduce this on karmic and they could not.

The problem was caused by a experimental Spanish (Chile) language-pack for Firefox 3.5. So the Ubuntu package is not the problem.
