Bug Description

In ubuntu dapper 6.06 install I can't set the modem sound to low or off i.e I can select the available settings, but the modem sound is always on loud.
(I edited /etc/chatscripts/ppp with M0L0 to get the sound muted) Also modem monitor frequently will not connect and appears to lose the settings-the phone # field is blank when I check it after it doesn't connect. Sometimes the only solution to a non-responsive modem monitor is to reboot and then it works. (trashing the panel icon fixes the non responsiveness infrequently) pppconfig was used to set up dial out. Orginally only the network tool would establish connection. modem monitor needed addtional settings in /etc/ppp/peers adjusted. And gnome-ppp installed with apt does not work at all.

I orginated this bug. Today, June 4th 2006, I updated gnome-ppp with apt and got the latest update. Gnome-ppp still doesn't establish a connection-although it can access the modem and dial out. I am including the terminal output here (this output is from the previous day, but even after the update the same error output occurs-also I have only used pppconfig to set up the modem-no files have been hand edited):

Note: modem monitor works to establish a connection, but if the connection drops I can't re-connect unless I re-boot AND remove the old modem monitor panel icon and add a new one.

Yup, this bug was reported against dapper. I don't have the time to play
anymore games with this. If the ubuntu developers don't care about the
quality of their work than neither do I. Dapper-deleted!
