Bug Description

When i insert a dvd rom (in this case of a videogame) it isn't automaticly mounted by nautilus. When i do sudo mount /dev/dvd /media/mountpath it mounts perfect. In 'gnome-volume-properties' i use the upper three options, so all media should be mounted when inserted.

I use Dapper Drak Beta

Can you please do the steps on http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingRemovableDevices (the first half of the page will do for now) and attach the logs here? Thanks!

Well, i inserted a game dvd, but Ubuntu recognizes it as an empty one. When i mount the same dvd like i said in my post it mounts perfect and it isn't empty anymore.

indeed your kernel seems to have some difficulties with it:

[4296348.117000] cdrom: This disc doesn't have any tracks I recognize!

After you mount it manually, what's the output of 'mount'?

After i mount it, mount says in dutch:

mount: blok-apparaat /dev/dvd is schrijf-beveiligd, alleen-lezen aankoppelen

free translated: block-device /dev/dvd is write protected, read only mounting

Hope that's what you mean

And i think the following lines are added to gvm.log:

manager.c/2800: Mounted: /org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/volume_empty_dvd_rom
manager.c/3399: dbus error: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.UnknownMethod
manager.c/3404: at active console
manager.c/2814: not in mount queue: /org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/volume_empty_dvd_rom

I just looked at your hal output again, and this rang a bell:

  * In the light of bug 27316, does it help to insert and remove an audio CD? Is the DVD recognized then?
  * Does it work with your other CD-ROM drive?

closing g-v-m bug. If at all, this is a hal bug, but most probably a kernel one.

I've just tried an audio-cd. When i insert it, it is recognized right and i can play audio. When i remove the cd and enter the game dvd again, the dvd is now detected properly!

My other cd-rom drive works fine by the way and is mounted on inserting.
