Does anything using xfprint4 work? I can confirm this, printing does not work even to a .ps file. Possibly we need to adapt the xfprint code to recent CUPS. Did xfprint4 work with cups 1.1, a few weeks ago or anytime during dapper?

I saw this problem recently too. Printing through mousepad brings up the xfprint4 dialog (the same as calling "xfprint4" from command line) but then get error "client-error-bad-request".

A workaround is to then call xfprint4 directly from CLI. But this produces a more serious bug: the original text file that is printed gets deleted.

In my case, I am printing through cups to cups-pdf.

this is a big problem for me (on xubu 6.06)

in the meantime i'll try installing gedit instead

could be due to xfprint4 not working at all in dapper? A CUPS 1.2 compatibilty bug was solved only after dapper released.

I think I found the cure to bug 41271 (mousepad doesn't print) We need to make a2ps part of the default install for Xubuntu, as this is needed for xfprint to function. After installing a2ps, mousepad prints, I have confirmed it on 2 machines, and removing a2ps causes the issue to reappear

I think maybe have xfprint4 depend on a2ps would fix this?

thanks for the finding. A2ps used to be a dependency of xfprint4 but recently it was made to work without thuse we changed the debian package dependency to suggest only. It should have been a recommends probbaly, will get this fixed in feisty.

i think a backports fix would be a good idea as well, seeing how this bug goes all the way back to Breezey

It seems this would also fix bug 54436 .

Problem was solved with installing A2ps in edgy-PPC. Dialog buttons now work unlike before. Should be a dependency of xfprint4.

Seen in Feisty x86, solved by installing A2ps. Definately think we should make A2ps a dep for xfprint4.

A2ps is in universe, so this is not possible (iirc, a main package can't depend on/recommends a universe one).

I couldn't print by Mousepad in Gutsy. In Xfprint dialog, after I click print, the dialog freezes. No error message in console.

But after I installed a2ps, printing works (at least twice). No need to reboot.

Well, printing does not work completely even after installing a2ps: If I use scandinavic characters åöä they are displayed as pairs of two other characters, and the end of line is cut by the number of scandinavic characters.

A new mousepad is being written upstream, it will use the gtk print dialog and will thus reduce all the dependencies needed, we just have to wait...

a2ps fixed my issue in Gutsy also. However, I can only print entire documents - the "Print pages in range" option doesn't seem to work. Anyone else had this issue? Fixes?
