Bug Description

Binary package hint: ubiquity

As similar reported for Jaunty, there are difficulties with the installer on small Netbook screens.

I tried out the new Kubuntu netbook version of Karmic Koala. Alpha 3 worked fine, concerning the installer. Now I tried Alpha 5, where the installer frontend changed. I'm using an EeePC 701G with an 7 inch screen. The "Back" and "Forward" buttons are not visible and only available through Alt + F respectively Alt + B. The usual trick to press Alt and move the window around with the mouse does not work here, so you're completely lost.
Since this is a netbook version I think it's worth fixing this issue.

The physical sie of your screen is not the problem. The screen resolution is what matters. What resolution does your Eee have?

Can you please provide a screenshot?

Here is a screenshot of the installer's first page.

The resolution is 800 x 480 pixels.

This actually is a showstopper for most 7" (low resolution) users - I wouldn't have been able to come up with the Alt+F / Alt+B without reading it here. Tried the alt+mouse thing and was disappointed not seeing it work.

Ok, I was able to get further. There are some problems with the alt+f -approach too:
1) If you change the language, the shortcut key is also changed to something else
2) It's not always 'forward', it's also 'install' - and I think it all is not localized so it kept chancing between the Finnish Forward (Eteenpäin ?) and english texts.

One can almost see what the buttons say by taking the mouse cursor to top left corner (expose..)

I would like to add that sometimes you can see the whole screen in ALT+TAB, but it did not work all the time.
It might work if you change font size, but the panel is nice small in the first "home" screen, so that should not be the problem.
Problem did still exist in the kubuntu-9.10-netbook-i386.iso
