Gnome terminal uses offensive words like "colours"

Bug Description

In gnome terminal, under edit --> current profile, even though my locale is en_US.utf8, I see the English English spelling of colour, rather than the American English: color. This is odd, because while the check box below also reads "Use colours from system theme", I see at the bottom "Note: Terminal applications have these colors available to them".

I didn't see an en_US transaltions file under rosetta, so I just filed this bug.

Thanks for your bug. What is the value of LANGUAGE to your environment? (echo $LANGUAGE). Does setting LANGUAGE=en_US.UTF-8 makes a difference?

setting the variable before hand doesn't make a difference

do you run it from an already running g-t? if that's the case it'll detect the running instance and don't change that, you can run it with --disable-factory to force a new instance

Yes I did. This time I launched it from an x-term (your way works as well) and "colors" is spelled correctly.

Marking as duplicate of bug #10822 than. You may want to change your LANGUAGE to /etc/environment
