Bug Description

my gdm starts just with an resolution of 640x480 on an IBM Thinkpad A31p with an 15 UXGA(1600x1200)-Display and ATI FireGL 7800 M7. Nothings helps.
Tried ati-driver as well as radeon-driver.

This might be an interesting info:
The grafical Preferences-Screen Resolution Choice just gives my to choose out of 640x480 and Refresh Rate -21213.

Here is some of my xorg.conf

Code:

Section "Device" Identifier "ATI Technologies, Inc. Radeon RV200 LX [Mobility FireGL 7800 M7]" Driver "ati" BusID "PCI:1:0:0" EndSection Section "Monitor" DisplaySize 305 229 HorizSync 30-95 Identifier "Monitor0" ModelName "1600X1200@75HZ" Option "DPMS" VendorName "--> LCD" VertRefresh 58-78 EndSection Section "Screen" Identifier "Default Screen" Device "ATI Technologies, Inc. Radeon RV200 LX [Mobility FireGL 7800 M7]" Monitor "Monitor0" DefaultDepth 24 SubSection "Display" Depth 8 Modes "1600x1200" "1280x1024" "1024x768" EndSubSection SubSection "Display" Depth 16 Modes "1600x1200" "1280x1024" "1024x768" EndSubSection SubSection "Display" Depth 24 Modes "1600x1200" "1280x1024" "1024x768" EndSubSection

Default Re: Gnome low screen resolution (just 640x480)
I'm trying and trying and still hoping that a wise guy can help me:
so here so additional information to this problem:

I added this line to the xorg.conf:
ModeLine "1600x1200@75HZ" 162.00 1600 1656 1848 2160 1200 1200 1203 1250
and changed in the subSections "Display" Mode to "1600x1200" "1024x768" "1600x1200@75HZ".
I deleted the lines VendorName and ModelName.

I tried "radeon" driver instead of "ati" - same resolution (640x480)

would like to post some parts of my /var/log/Xorg.0.log:

It seems to recognise the first monitor!? (The second isnt connected to the notebook)
Code:

(II)RADEON(0): Primary: Monitor -- LVDS Connector -- DVI-D DAC Type -- TVDAC/ExtDAC TMDS Type -- Internal DDC Type -- DVI_DDC (II) RADEON(0): Secondary: Monitor -- CRT Connector -- VGA DAC Type -- Primary TMDS Type -- NONE DDC Type -- VGA_DDC (II) RADEON(0): PLL parameters: rf=2700 rd=12 min=12000 max=35000; xclk=18300 (WW) RADEON(0): Failed to detect secondary monitor DDC, default HSync and VRefresh used (==) RADEON(0): Using gamma correction (1.0, 1.0, 1.0) (II) RADEON(0): Validating modes on Primary head --------- (II) RADEON(0): Panel ID string: 1600x1200 (II) RADEON(0): Panel Size from BIOS: 1600x1200 (II) RADEON(0): BIOS provided dividers will be used. after that the file contains a lot of resolutions with the (hsync out of range)-error message.

So, this piece i cannot understand
Code:

(II) RADEON(0): Not using mode "1600x1200" (no mode of this name) (II) RADEON(0): Not using mode "1024x768" (no mode of this name) (II) RADEON(0): Not using mode "1600x1200@75HZ" (no mode of this name) (II) RADEON(0): Total of 2 CRTC2 modes found for MergedFB------------ (II) RADEON(0): Modes for CRT1: ******************** (--) RADEON(0): Virtual size is 1600x1200 (pitch 1600) (**) RADEON(0): *Mode "1600x1200": 162.0 MHz (scaled from 0.0 MHz), 75.0 kHz, 60.0 Hz (II) RADEON(0): Modeline "1600x1200" 162.00 1600 1656 1848 2160 1200 1200 1203 1250

after that the last two lines are repeatet with different resolution and values.

And now wierdly it takes the wrong thing and presents me a resolution on my screen of 640x480:
Code:

(II) RADEON(0): Modes for CRT2: ******************** (--) RADEON(0): Virtual size is 640x480 (pitch 640) (**) RADEON(0): Default mode "640x480": 25.2 MHz, 31.5 kHz, 60.0 Hz (II) RADEON(0): Modeline "640x480" 25.20 640 656 752 800 480 490 492 525 -hsync -vsync (**) RADEON(0): Default mode "320x240": 12.6 MHz, 31.5 kHz, 60.1 Hz (D) (II) RADEON(0): Modeline "320x240" 12.60 320 328 376 400 240 245 246 262 doublescan -hsync -vsync (II) RADEON(0): Generating MergedFB mode list (II) RADEON(0): No MetaModes given, linking largest common modes by default (II) RADEON(0): Merged "640x480" (640x480) and "640x480" (640x480) to 640x480 (Clone) (--) RADEON(0): MergedFB: Virtual width 640 (--) RADEON(0): MergedFB: Virtual height 480 (**) RADEON(0): MergedFB: Display dimensions: (305, 229) mm (**) RADEON(0): MergedFB: DPI set to (53, 53)

so and now continues with unimportant stuff (loading module "fb" etc...)

I tried changing the Horizsync-Value to 31.0 - 80.0 - but didnt help me.
