Bug Description

Hi

This is a complement to my previous bug report which disappered from my list??? Anyway same Pb, as from install from scratch, w/ upgrade from my April release (saved and just restored from Partimage).

Let me summarize:

I updgraded from April release to today's, no Pb, but when I rebooted on kernel 2.6.15-23-386 , I got the same sync Pb as the one from a new install from today's version i.e.:

[4294712.245000] <0> kernel panic - not syncing: fatal exception in interrupt.

It's more clear now (maybe for Phil who answered to me one hour ago). It has nothing to do w/ an eventual bad grub initialization because I just upgraded the existing.

I then rebooted from my previous saved kernel (2.6.15-20-386) and it WORKED FINE as before

My PC is a laptop Toshiba M70-168
Processor: Intel M40 1.7 GHz
HD: sata 80 GB
Ram: 512

I keep my PC in this position for another 1 or 2 hours in case you would need more info (but I cannot start it w/ kernel 15-23 as you understood)

Good luck and Thx for the correction (I hope!!)

PS: I picked-up some typical errors from the last page
[4294712.245000] scsi_error_handler+0x0/0x120 [scsi mod]
[4294712.245000] ata_scsi_error_handler+0x12/0x30 [libatal]
[4294712.245000] scsi_error_handler+0xaa/0x120 [scsi mod]

Hi Gerard,

Could you provide a transcription of the kernl panic that you see?

We need a fuller version to identify the problem. I'm sorry that
you will have to do this by hand. If you have a digital camera,
a photograph is good too.

Thanks.

Hi, I'm really desperate that nobody takes care of this bug that many people w/ a laptop are coping with.

I've tried again w/ the latest update, 2 or 3 days ago, (today is sept. 17th) of 2.6.15-26-386, but still the same: after the splash, when I switch to identification, the screen is frozen and the mouse inactive, so I came back one more time to 2.6.15-20-386.

I'm surprised nobody from Ubuntu seems interested (apart from people like me who also raised the bug). No reply!!

If you want to penetrate large companies, you'd better solve this first because no IT manager will accept to deploy an OS w/ such a big bug on Sata laptops. It's up to you. Thx for your help

Is your bug exactly like one of the two you listed? If so, please mark this one a duplicate of that one. That will subscribe you to that one.

The other bug reports seem to have a lot more information than this one.

Hi Ben, my bug is close to #45636 except I cannot even switch to a console

Today's update (29-09-2006): I just upgraded to 2.6.15.27.386 and ... stil the same mess

I start splash and then kernel panic (which I did not have anymore on 2.6.15.25, it was "only" everything frozen at ID session).

In order to help you, I attached a photo of the last page displayed. Thx for your help

Good news

I just installed the released Edgy version 25-10-2006 on my Tosh. No problem anymore, everything's fine now.

Good and congratulations, Ubuntu is wonderful

PS : what might have confused me is that the mouse is frozen during the login period, but after login, it's still active
