Bug Description

From: Dylan Knight Rogers <email address hidden>
To: <email address hidden>
X-Mailer: bug-buddy 2.14.0
Subject: SanDisk Cruzer Mini Micro 2.0GB Thumb Drive is seen as CD-ROM disk *and* USB drive.

Distribution: Ubuntu 6.06 (dapper)
Package: gnome-applets
Severity: minor
Version: GNOME2.14.1 unspecified
Gnome-Distributor: Ubuntu
Synopsis: Plug in the SanDisk Cruzer Mini Micro 2.0GB Thumb Drive is seen as CD-ROM disk *and* USB drive.
Bugzilla-Product: gnome-applets
Bugzilla-Component: Disk Mounter (drivemount)
Bugzilla-Version: unspecified
Description:
Description of Problem: When you plug in the Plug in the SanDisk Cruzer
Mini Micro 2.0GB Thumb Drive thumb drive, the system mounts it
perfectly, but a CD-ROM drive icon appears on the desktop. I am not
certain if this is with all USB drives (my other SanDisk 128MB USB Micro
Thumb Drive does not reproduce this snafu), or if its simply this model
or amount of storage. Simultaneously, my removable USB backup hard disk
does not reproduce this problem, either.

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. Plug in the SanDisk Cruzer Mini Micro 2.0GB Thumb Drive
2. Wait for Nautilus to mount the drive.
3. Watch two icons appear on the desktop -- 1 CD-ROM drive and 1
"usbdisk" icon.

Actual Results: 2 icons appear on the desktop.

Expected Results: Only one icon, the "usbdisk" labeled icon should
appear on the desktop.

How often does this happen?: Every time you plug in the Plug in the
SanDisk Cruzer Mini Micro 2.0GB Thumb Drive.

Additional Information: This is not too big of an issue, in fact it is
just a small bug. I just bought the Plug in the SanDisk Cruzer Mini
Micro 2.0GB Thumb Drive today, so I am not certain if it reproduces the
same error on Ubuntu 5.10 or lower.

Thanks for trying to fix all these bugs! You guys have one great
distribution here!

Hi Dylan,

We need some more debugging information, please.

Could you run the following commands?
$ killall gnome-volume-manager
$ gnome-volume-manager -n 2>&1 | tee /tmp/gvm.log
(Now insert your thumb drive. After the output settles,
hit Control-C)
$ sudo lsusb -v 2>&1 | tee /tmp/lsusb.log

Then, please attach /tmp/gvm.log and /tmp/lsusb.log to
this bug report using the "Add Attachment" link on the bug
page.

Thanks.

Sorry for taking so long to come back to you (so many bugs...) unfortunately I need some more information. Can you please do the steps mentioned on

   https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingRemovableDevices

(just the first half, no hal debug output required for now)? Preferably this should happen on a Ubuntu Feisty live CD (the test version herd-4 has just been released, it's live CD would be an excellent target). If that's not possible, testing Edgy would work, too. Thank you!

I have the 1.0GB version of this device. It actually has 2 partitions on it, one is a 5MB CDFS partition, the second is 973MB FAT. (According to Win XP). So looks like everything is working exactly as it should. (When I attach this device in Windows, I get a removable drive and CD-ROM appear).
