Bug Description

I wanted to install Test Drive on my Ubuntu 9.10 system and something went wrong. Apparently, loading the kvm module failed.

Here's the log:

If I start Test Drive and hit one for booting the desktop iso, the terminal window closes withouth any notification.

If I launch Test Drive from the command line, it tells me to install either KVM or VirtualBox.

The problem seems to be somewhere in the way Test Drive starts KVM, right?

I now read the you have to have some sort of special cpu for KVM to work and I don't seem the have one. At least, 'grep -E '^flags.*\b(vmx|svm)\b' /proc/cpuinfo' returns no output.

If I get the problem right, the bug is that Test Drive doesn't check whether my cpu is KVM enabled or not before installing KVM, right?

Correct. The package installation doesn't check your hardware capability.

However, you can still run testdrive using VirtualBox instead, even if
you don't have a virtualization-capable CPU.

sudo apt-get install virtualbox-ose

Are you planning to add such a check? It would be much easier for users like me that don't know anything about virtualization.
