Bug Description

Binary package hint: kdebase-bin

kcheckpass needs to have the suid root flag set in order to work properly. However, after some updates, this flag is reset and unlocking the screensaver doesn't work anymore. After

>sudo chmod u+s /usr/bin/kcheckpass

everything is fine again. This flag should not be reset by any package update or anything else.

kcheckpass does not need to have suid flag set (and it also does not have by default).
You probably have wrong ownership of /etc/shadow file - see bug 37407.

Indeed, this is a duplicate of bug 37407.

Changing the ownership of /etc/shadow
>sudo chgrp shadow /etc/shadow
solves the problem.
