Bug Description

Since Dapper, the repo version (1.5.3-3) fails. I've been using the package available here:

Alright, Backports is currently waiting on a newer Edgy upload of checkinstall.

In the meantime, can people confirm the checkinstall problems? Checkinstall is working fine for me in Dapper on two of my systems, so I find it strange that it doesn't work for some.

Weird. I just downgraded and suddenly it's working?

Very weird....

So do you still want this request open? I don't think the checkinstall bug is caused by the dapper checkinstall package, as it works on all my systems and (if it didn't work) there would've been A LOT more complaints by now!

Yes, I think this probably should be in backports even if it isn't necessary (and a relatively low priority project) considering that this version has been out for quite some time, many people have already been using it without any noticed breakage, and this latest version probably does fix a few cosmetic issues.

So, if it's not inconvenient, please do. Thanks.

I have backported and tested checkinstall/installwatch 1.6.0-1ubuntu1 from Edgy and it works fine on Dapper. checkinstall from Edgy is approved for backporting.

Heh, I know using checkinstall unwisely can lead to weird system breakages,
but checkinstall itself misbehaving? :D
