Bug Description

When I launch Test Drive and try to start Ubuntu Netbook Remix (Luicid) the cli closes and nothing happens

I'm running Ubuntu 9.10 64Bit and I have run Ubuntu Desktop several times with no issues and Ubuntu Server once with no issues.

I'm a non-programmer so please let me know what kind of information I can provide to help with this issue.

Hmm, can you testdrive from the command line and paste the output?

Do it like this:

 $ sh -x /usr/bin/testdrive -u http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-netbook/daily-live/current/lucid-netbook-i386.iso

Thanks!

So I made some progress running the lucid daily iso image in kvm.

Note that I had to hit F4 in the bootloader, and choose safe graphics mode. Something about compositing (I think) is not working within KVM.

But it still hangs on the desktop ... Not sure. This might be a real bug in Lucid's kernel, or possibly in KVM. It doesn't look like a testdrive bug, though

This is the output when I type in command "sh -x /usr/bin/testdrive -u http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-netbook" straight from the cli. Is there anything else I could do to help?

 sh -x /usr/bin/testdrive -u http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-netbook
+ PKG=testdrive
+ PKGRC=testdriverc
+ [ -r /etc/testdriverc ]
+ . /etc/testdriverc
+ [ -r /home/dcrews/.testdriverc ]
+ [ -n -u ]
+ ISO_URL=http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-netbook
+ shift 2
+ grep -qs \.iso$
+ echo http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-netbook
+ echo ERROR: URL parameter must point to a .iso file
ERROR: URL parameter must point to a .iso file
+ exit 1

I typed the command wrong last time. I did it again with the full command "sh -x /usr/bin/testdrive -u http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-netbook/daily-live/current/lucid-netbook-i386.iso" and it started downloading the iso. I let you know how it goes after the download/install

Download full text (9.6 KiB)

So I can launch it manually from the cli. It downloads and starts the install process.

I also ran into the problem with the graphics not working during the boot up. So I launched it again from the cli manually and selected F4 and the live cd came up. It locked up from there (not sure if that is a test drive issue or not). Then I launched it again manually from the cli and selected F4 and put the option to Safemode again and they tried the option to install it. At this point it the graphics were all fuzz. It may be a prompt but I can't tell.

Below is the cli output form the last time that I launched it manually and selected safemode and install.

The netbook remix isn't a remix anymore and have so changed location on the server. Should be a trivial patch for someone to write.
