Bug Description

Binary package hint: gramps

I installed GRAMPS, using Synaptic, in Kubuntu 10.04 Alpha 2. The error and error message appear, the first time trying to open GRAMPS. I then removed GRAMPS and reinstalled, however the same error occurs.

The error is as follows:

2384: ERROR: gramps.py: line 215: Gramps failed to start.
Traceback (most recent call last):

    label.set_alignment(xalign=1.0, yalign=0.5)
AttributeError: 'gtk.HBox' object has no attribute 'set_alignment'

This is with GRAMPS Version 3.1.3-1 from the repositories. GRAMPS does not open at all.

Did this fix your problem? And how did you setup your machine - I can't find an alpha release of Kubuntu 10.04.

the fix in the gramps bug does indeed solve this. it isnt a bug for debian sid but i think thats due to lucid moving to gtk 2.19.

I'm confused. This bug starts of filed against gramps 3.1.3 but although that's been released by the gramps developers, it is not in the repository for karmic or lucid as far as I can see.

So I tried Gramps in Lucid in a virtual machine and it (3.1.2) started without problems (lucid updated today). Clearly Gramps should be upgraded to 3.1.3 in the repositories.

Well, then I am confused, as well. I have installed GRAMPS from the repositories in Lucid and Synaptic shows it as GRAMPS version 3.1.3-1 having been installed. That still is not working for me, after doing all the latest updates available for Lucid. Am I using some version not in the repositories, although that's where I got it, or am I doing something wrong, since I still have the same issue?

gramps version is 3.1.3-1 in both lucid and debian unstable,
gramps/lucid uptodate 3.1.3-1

and gramps homepage has Version GRAMPS 3.1.3 was released 2009-12-06

perhaps you need to update your repositories?

the fix isnt in the repositories, the attached patch does fix it, it needs review from a universe sponsor to check for sanity. the build in the ppa mentioned previously is really just for personally testing/reviewing if the fix works
