Upgrade from 8.04.4 to lucid fails; upgrades to 9.10 instead

Bug Description
Binary package hint: update-manager
RELEASE: Ubuntu 8.04.4
CD/DVD VARIANT: 32bit Ubuntu desktop cd
ISO BUILD: 2010-01-21.1
SYMPTOMS: After a successful installation of Ubuntu 8.04.4, I attempted an upgrade to lucid. Update-manager shows it will upgrade to 10.4. When the upgrade process starts, it upgrades to 9.10.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
1. Install Ubuntu 8.04.4
2. After installing, restart the system.
3. When the system restarts, log in.
4. Open a terminal, run sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
There will be three updates available, install them.
5. Restart the system again.
6. Alt + F2, type in "update-manager -d"
7. Observe that the system will be upgraded to version 10.4
8. Click the upgrade button.
9. When the upgrade begins, observe it is upgrading to version 9.10

Thanks for your report. This is a string fix reported in bug 500709, so i'm marking this report as duplicate. You must have seen the release notes for 10.04. But if, once you've upgraded, you're really landing in 9.10 then 'unduplicate' this report, and ping me because this would be a quite critical issue.
