It's still 2.0.2 in edgy, we'll have to wait for that to upgrade at least.

I agree. Please update. OpenOffice is an application I like to stay up to date on, especially since I work in a VERY mixed environment.

Since it includes security fixes, it should really go as security update instead of backport.

Will evaluate buildability and such, as package is in Edgy.

Note that the security vulnerabilities have been fixed already in dapper-security.

This is not a security issue, as the security fix was backported to 2.0.2 - openoffice.org (2.0.2-2ubuntu12.1) dapper-security; urgency=low

  * Add patch to fix a potential buffer overflow in the xml to utf-8
    converter. CVE-2006-3117.
  * Add patch from upstream to fix macro handling security bug; it was
possible to embed macros in documents without OOo seeing them and
executing them without any user interaction. CVE-2006-2198.
  * Add patch from upstream to disable Java applets feature because it's
possible to write Java applets breaking out of the sandbox.
    CVE-2006-2199.

Bill Gunn (billgunn) wrote : Re: Please backport to Dapper

I attempted to install OpenOffice 2.0.3 in Ubuntu Dapper from Dapper Proposed. Package openoffice.org-gtk would not install because of a failed dependency on libpango-1.0.0 being >=1.12.3 while it is 1.12.2 in dapper. I could not get it to install OOo 2.0.3 and I did not want to risk trying to install 1.12.3 from Debian Testing so I reverted to OOo 2.0.2. I gather the Kubuntu installation works OK as it is not dependant on the GTK libries and does not install the openoffice.org-gtk package.
