Bug Description

Binary package hint: krfb

On Dapper Drake with an AMD64-Xeon krfb fails every time for me. From a remote machine:

> vncviewer ubuntu-box
vncviewer: VNC server closed connection

> krdc unbuntu-box
VNC server closed connection
(Dialog box says: "Connection failed: The server does not accept new connections.")

But everything looks okay on the ubuntu machine:

Under Sharing/Desktop Sharing I have everything checked and a password set:
[x] Allow uninvited connections
[x] Announce service on the network
[x] Confirm uninvited connections before accepting
[x] Allow uninvited connections to control the desktop
Password:
*******

krfb seems to be up and running:

> dcop kded kinetd isEnabled krfb
true

> dcop kded kinetd port krfb
5900

> netstat -nlp | grep 5900
tcp6 0 0 :::5900 :::* LISTEN 5850/kded [kinetd]

> ps -eaf | grep 5850
11186 5850 1 0 09:42 ? 00:00:05 kded [kdeinit]
11186 9675 5850 0 10:57 ? 00:00:00 krfb --kinetd 24

I have no idea how to get more information from kinetd or krfb as to why they are failing.

is this fixed if you install rdesktop, by any chance?

I already have rdesktop installed, so I guess that means no it doesn't
fix it :)

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue for you? Thanks in advance.

I have switched to using x11vnc which satisfies all of my needs.

Do you happen to know if krfb still fails though?

Hi,

I can confirm that this bug is still present, on three different kubuntu feisty machines (1 upgraded from edgy, 2 bare metal installs).

krfb does not accept connections sometimes, and when it does, cpu is 100% with krfb and X being the ones using all available CPU.

It seems that amd64 is not required to reproduce it: It happens on i386 also.

Well, it seems that krfb does not work with KDE 3.x and the fixes only comes in KDE 4, unless you want
to checkout a CVS copy, apply patches and recompile.... Us the (k|x)ubutu folks will have to wait for 7.10, and
its KDE 4 optional install...

Looking at the upstream bug report there seems to be a patch there . . . .

Unfortunately, I have never built KDE from source, so I cannot do it by my self.
So the only collaboration I can provide will be to gladly test patched package you guys can craft.

Thanks in advance!

Perhaps that patch (http://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=21009&action=view) given as solution to
http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=124529 can be applied to feisty?

This way we can have a solution until gutsy and KDE 4.are out.
