There is new gst-plugins-base0.10 version in Ubuntu Edgy, which contains important bugfixes, e.g. famous Elephant's Dream movie does play, at last:

-plugins-base 0.10.9 requires a newer version of the GStreamer core than is in Dapper, so that would have to be backported too.

I've rebuilt the Edgy packages locally on my Dapper machine, and everything is working perfectly (GStreamer does have a big regression/unit test suite). The only potential issue is that the -base package wants libvisual 0.4, so either that would need backporting or not having it's element built.

This would be great. gstreamer0.10_0.10.9-1ubuntu1 from Edgy builds cleanly on Dapper without any packaging changes.

I'll attach the build log if anyone is interested.
