Bug Description
In the Ubuntu One preferences, the account informations always shows unknown, even when I am connected. Under Devices, all I see is <LOCAL MACHINE>. Under services, File Synchronization and Music Download is checked, but if I check Contacts or Bookmarks, the next time I open Ubuntu One Preferences, they are unchecked. File syncronization does happen though, so it is not that I cannot connect.

Doug,
looks like you have some network hardware related issues that block DNS SRV lookups. You can try the following command in a Terminal (Applications > Accessories > Terminal):
dig -t SRV _xmpp-client. _tcp.gmail. com
If that fails your modem is likely to be broken.
In case SRV lookup fails, the connection is done according to the defaults specified in /etc/xdg/ ubuntuone/ syncdaemon. conf. AS you have already figured out this is not a 'critical' error.
thank you,
