Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-menus

This package failed to install when upgrading to 10.04. after this upgrade, every time I login I have to go to Appearance Preferences and change Visual Effects to Normal. If I don't do this every window is missing title bar, thus I cannot move or resize them.

ProblemType: Package
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.04
Package: python-gmenu 2.30.0-0ubuntu4
ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.32-21.32-generic 2.6.32.11+drm33.2
Uname: Linux 2.6.32-21-generic i686
Architecture: i386
Date: Fri Apr 30 14:57:59 2010
ErrorMessage: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 2
InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 9.10 "Karmic Koala" - Release i386 (20091028.5)
SourcePackage: gnome-menus
Title: package python-gmenu 2.30.0-0ubuntu4 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 2

...

Got the same behavior with Visual Effects (and window title bars) in other machine after upgrading to 10.04, so it seems that the error in this package is not related to the behavior described earlier

For me, everything (including visual effects and awn) seems to work, but it still gives this error.
'dpkg --configure -a' gives:

Setting up python-gmenu (2.30.0-0ubuntu4) ...
eval: 1: Syntax error: Unterminated quoted string
dpkg: error processing python-gmenu (--configure):
subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 2

This error occurred during 10.04 upgrade (from 9.10)
See attachment for complete output.

I had this very same issue, eval failed to change LC_MESSAGES environment variable. Edited the postinst script slightly with midnight commander (apt-get install mc). Instead of using eval, I used another way of setting the environment variable.

patch included.

Milo thanks for figuring that out! i've been plagued by this bug since the beta, and I do override LC_MESSAGES and more in /etc/environment

bug #608535 could be the same issue, it seems to have some duplicates but only on lucid

Could any of you please give me the output of "locale"? I wonder how to reproduce this. Thanks!
