Bug Description

Binary package hint: evolution version 2.8.0-0ubuntu1

Connecting to an IMAP-Server with an expired SSL-Certificate shows up a dialog
saying: "Failed to connect to IMAP server lorifan.homeip.net in secure mode:
SSL negotiations failed"

No connection can be established to the server then.

Thanks for your bug. When you open an upstream bug too better to point it, opening a task for http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=354119

I can confirm this with imap.ouvaton.org.

Same problem, same result. Really annoying (well, makes evolution useless for me)

Do you have some step to create the situation? Why not updating the certificate or using a connection without one? What is the interest to use an expired certificate?

I already tried to connect with an certificate that has not expired same problem,
but I resolved this issue using this hint:

Just try to initiate a TLS connection with imap.ouvaton.org

This is a mail service provider. I could ask them to update their
certificate, not do it myself.

Sure I could, but I like the idea of sending my login/password and
receiving my mail on a crypted connection.

None, but in case you have to, most application just tell you it has
expired, and ask I you want to use it anyway...

well, if I understand it well, I would have to modify the imap's server
config.... but this is not my server !

Also, evolution used to be able to connect to this imap server with TLS,
and thunderbird still is.

Franck

I have the same problem with my server. I know it's my server so I can create a new SSL-certificat, but it's a bug to not have the choice to accept or not the certificat, expired or not.

Grégory
