German keymap has no way of typing low double quotation marks

Bug Description

„ (U+201E DOUBLE LOW-9 QUOTATION MARK) is often used in German as an open quotation mark, with “ as the closing mark (English-style quotes are used too, as well as guillemets, but these are traditional). You can set things like OOo to use this style instead of ", but plain text things have no way to enter it.

I'd suggest (depending on input from people who actually type German regularly) assigning the German "pretty quotes" to AltGr-V and AltGr-B („ and “ respectively).

I can confirm here with locale de_DE.utf-8 installed. The lower quote should be put on the key Alt Gr + V.

Yes. Very annoying. Alt Gr + V should generate "„" and Alt Gr + Shift + V should generate a single lower quote. The English Left Quotes could move one key to the right, N is unmapped in both Alt Gr and Alt Gr + Shift.

You need to file a bug report at bugs.freedesktop.org, under product xkeyboard-config, with an updated keyboard layout for de (Germany).

The file you need to edit is /etc/X11/xkb/symbols/de

The file is actually at /usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols/de. Would you mind creating a modified version that fixes the quotes as you like, and attach it (or a diff would be great), which we can incorporate as well as send upstream? Thanks ahead of time.

This patch adds the low quotation marks to AltGr+v, and shifts the English quotation marks to AltGr+b and AltGr+n as suggested. I've tested this and it seems to work.
