Bug Description

Binary package hint: empathy

Description: Ubuntu 10.04 LTS
Release: 10.04
empathy:
  Installed: 2.30.1-0ubuntu1
  Candidate: 2.30.1-0ubuntu1
  Version table:

        500 http://ca.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ lucid/main Packages

For some reason, Empathy lost all my IM accounts (MSN, Gtalk, ICQ) one day.

I tried to re-add them via Edit->Accounts. The "Welcome to Empathy" screen opened up and I chose "Yes, I'll enter my account details now" option.

On the "Enter your account details" page, I selected MSN and entered in my MSN account info. I chose the "No, that's all for now" option and clicked "Forward".

Next came the "Please enter personal details" page. No matter if I selected the "I don't want to enable this feature for now" option or not, clicking on "Apply" the first time did nothing.

After a second click on "Apply", the "An error occurred" screen showed up with the message "The error message was: Applying already in progress". After waiting for around half a minute, the page showed "The error message was: Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken."

I tried this multiple times with adding different IM accounts (i.e. Gtalk, ICQ), all with the same results. Hence I wasn't able to add any accounts in Empathy.

Exactly the same problem for me after upgrading from Empathy 2.30.1-0ubuntu1 to 2.30.1.1-0ubuntu1.

Empathy is now totally broken :(

the initial bug report is from 2.30.1-0ubuntu1 though so it suggests it's not a breakage in the new version or you might have a different issue

Tried on 2.30.1.1-0ubuntu1 on a updated lucid box:
- I can add my gtalk account
- note that even if I get the "Please enter personal details" page, no matter if I selected the "I don't want to enable this feature for now", the apply button is grayed when I enter nothing and empathy, in the meawhile is connecting the account. Consequently, I can just hit "cancel"

As you want, but I would create the same bug report :
 - All accounts are lost after update
 - I'm not able to finish wizard to add new accounts (MSN, Jabber, ...)

On a newly created Ubuntu account, Empathy works perfectly. Something may be broken in my user profile.
Is it possible to reset Empathy configuration ?

Download full text (3.5 KiB)

there have been a few other bug reports in after lucid release with the same
problem. so I dont think an update is related here.
