Bug Description

Binary package hint: wesnoth-1.8

Please sync wesnoth-1.8 1:1.8.3-5 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

Changelog entries since current maverick version 1:1.8.3-1:

wesnoth-1.8 (1:1.8.3-5) unstable; urgency=low

  * Brown paper bag release.
  * When changing from directory to symlink in wesnoth and wesnoth-core do use
wesnoth-1.8-data, not the non-existing wesnoth-data one. Also remove the
now potential existing wrong symlink we might have introduced through -4
upgrades. Thanks to my proof reader Julien Cristau again.
  * Also switch the version comparison to lt-nl instead of le-nl so that the
check won't trigger on reinstall, also noticed by Julien.

wesnoth-1.8 (1:1.8.3-4) unstable; urgency=low

  * Ship default file for the server init script and adapt the init script to
use the script name instead of the binary name for the default file.
  * Fix debian/branchcheck helper script. Noticed by Julien Cristau, thanks.
  * Add postinst scripts for wesnoth and wesnoth-core packages that turn the
doc directory into symlinks. Also noticed by Julien Cristau, thanks!
  * Improve a package description by suggestion of Julien Cristau.
  * Add NEWS entry about the new handling of things.

wesnoth-1.8 (1:1.8.3-3) unstable; urgency=low

   * Make wesnoth and wesnoth-core packages directly depend on
     wesnoth-1.8-core.
   * Change debianization licensing to WTFPLv2.
   * Use same commandline in the menu file like in the application file for the
     editor.
   * Bump Standards-Version to 3.9.1.
   * Fix spelling errors in control file.
   * Add lintian override for diversion-for-unknown-file.
   * Move update-alternatives --remove to prerm.

 -- Gerfried Fuchs <email address hidden> Sun, 15 Aug 2010 22:57:20 +0200

wesnoth-1.8 (1:1.8.3-2) unstable; urgency=low

   * Adjust LSB init.d headers to match runlinks.
   * Update wesnoth-1.8-core package description, synchronize spacing and
     ordering in other package descriptions.
   * Bump to Standards-Version 3.9.0.
   * Use BRANODOT as placeholder in branchcheck script (for alternative
     priority)
   * Use alternative handling and dpkg-divert for wesnoth binaries and
     manpages.
   * Add wesnoth and wesnoth-core meta packages depending on the corresponding
     branch package (closes: #586291)
   * Call patch and unpatch explicitly instead of having them as dependency.
This applies the patches again (closes: #588712, LP: #610056)
   * New patch wesnothd-name to make the client search for wesnothd-1.8 instead
     of only wesnothd.

just saw your git diff for 1:1.8.3-4. I assume you prefer to have this version in? Setting back to incomplete, for me either version is fine. Please set back to confirmed once this is clarified.

I haven't even finished working on that diff when you wrote that. %-)
But yes, I want to have that in. Actually I would even prefer to have
the 1.8.4 upstream release in, but given that Debian is in freeze now it
was suggested to me by the Debian release team that I fix the issues in
1.8.3 first and get that into squeeze before addressing the 1.8.4 bugfix
release update.

So I'm fine with either - I hope to be able to upload 1:1.8.3-4 by
tomorrow, the build is currently running, the remaining issues are
addressed in git.

 Thanks. :)
Rhonda

haha, thanks, great! I believe it makes most sense to ship the same version in squeeze as in maverick maintenance wise? OTOH a bugfix 1.8.4 doesn't sound bad to me either, especially given that you're quite on top of the bugs present in Ubuntu. At this point of the freeze, I'm inclined to accept whatever you think can be maintained best :).

1:1.8.3-5 got ACKed by the Debian Release Team, so that is the version
that should go into Ubuntu for now. We'll see about 1.8.4 after my
vacation.

Thanks for your encouraging response. :)

This git link is the diff between the two versions, which could be helpful:
http://git.debian.org/?p=pkg-games/wesnoth.git;a=commitdiff;h=debian/1.8.3-5;hp=debian/1.8.3-1

Please notice the addition to the debian/NEWS file which might be considered relevant. Also the patch debian/patches/03wesnothd-name is relevant, otherwise people won't be able to start a local server conveniently enough.

And you can just ignore all the .in files. Those are just used to generate the proper versioned files and are there just as convenience and helpers, they aren't used in the build at all.

 Thanks in advance!
Rhonda

Still as I wrote, I fully trust that you'll make the best decision for wesnoth wrt. maverick's release. 1.8.3-5 is hence fine, just in case that's unclear.
