Bug Description

Binary package hint: nautilus

When trying to bookmark a folder named "Documents", nautilus produces two entries instead of one: one called Documents inside the system "Places" menu, and the other called Document in the folders bookmarks part of the "Places" menu.
No problem when trying to bookmark a folder named Document though...

That works fine for me on edgy. What entry do you have for it to ~/.gtk-bookmarks? Could you describe the step you do to add the bookmark?

When you create a folder called "Documents", ubuntu creates an entry which is named according to your locale settings (e.g. in german locale "Dokumente"). Folders named "Documents" and "Templates" are specially handled in many gtk-aware apps, as well as the "Desktop" folder. It is no bug, it's a feature. Maybe the only bug is the naming-inconsistency in en_* locale-translation.

To add the bookmark I used the "Bookmarks > Add bookmark" menu option in the nautilus window...nothing fancy I think...

I do not see how it could be a feature... I mean that my locale settings are set to english language, so how is it related, in Dapper, to the fact that there's two bookmarks in the Places menu, moreover with a naming inconsistency ??
AFAIK it is a bug...

why did you add a bookrmark if there is already one listed by default for that directory?

There is no "Documents" bookmark by default in Ubuntu 6.06. In fact there is not a single bookmark listed by default when you install the system.
The unwanted, duplicated bookmark that appears in the Places menu doesn't appear in ~/.gtk-bookmarks though...

By the way, the bug's still there in Dapper...

no, it's not a bookmark, it's a special place like Desktop and should be listed by the Places menu without having to add a bookmark

I can't see why "Documents" should be a special place like "Desktop". It simply should be a bookmark, whether or not it's there by default, and should "magically" appears as a duplicate whenever you try to add a "Documents" bookmark.

I'm using a "Document" (notice the absence of 's') bookmark for the moment, as this one doesn't trigger any bug.

Using a special place instead of a bookmark is a design decision. Bookmarks are user datas and package should not modify the user configuration. I'm marking the bug rejected, that's nor really a bug. If you want to discuss that change feel free to join the ubuntu-desktop IRC channel or mailing list
