This bug was fixed in the package kdenetwork - 4:4.5.0b-0ubuntu4

---------------
kdenetwork (4:4.5.0b-0ubuntu4) maverick; urgency=low

  * Re-add kopete-gcall.install which has been accidentally dropped in the
    last upload. (LP: #625550)

What exactly is broken?
The package contains the googletalk-call binary.

No it doesn't. I have the package installed, and it's not present (at least not in a sensible place, since "which googletalk-call" returns nothing) I have run "dpkg-reconfigure kdenetwork" and that didn't change the situation. Neither did uninstalling and re-installing. It seems either there has been some regression in the latest maverick version, if the i386 package was fixed correctly.

Ah my bad, it seems that i was reading where it said binary package hint:kdenetwork, that meant that the package was called kdenetwork

I'm using Kubuntu 10.04 with the backports-ppa (KDE SC 4.5.1). kopete-gcall is not installed as either a dependency for kdenetwrok or for kopete. I needed to install it manually.

After manual installation of kopete-gcall I could find googletalk-call in /usr/bin.

What I find disturbing is, that kopete was unable to connect to _ANY_ Jabber servers without this binary. (Facebook, jabber.ccc.de didn't work either.

I'm in 10.04 with the backports-ppa (KDE SC 4.5.1) as well. Connecting to Google Talk without the plugin works but it is definitely not present on either of my laptops.

same issue here..

Works connecting without gtalk call but I think this isn't the best option.
I can think in two "beautiful" solutions:

 1 - Install kopete-gcall with kopete OR
2 - Remove the warning message about the gcall not present and disable the call functionality if it is not present.

Please use kubuntu-ppa to report bugs in the PPA.

The second proposed solution is implemented in Kubuntu 10.10 for at least a week, so it will at least arrive with KDE 4.5.2 also in the lucid package.
