Bug Description

Edgy just updated and I have kernel 2.6.17-10
I'm getting:
"getting cpuindex for acpiid 0x03" and
"getting cpuindex for acpiid 0x04"

The computer delays booting for a while during the time that these messages are displayed.

I have a core 2 duo cpu and intel DP965LT motherboard.

I've got the same problem - with different number:

"getting cpuindex for acpiid 0x01"

Message comes up on a black screen at boot time, and there is a long delay before the PC successfully boots.

Clean install of Edgy beta.

AMD64 processor (single core), Gigabyte motherboard with NVidia 430 chipset with NVidia 6150 integrated graphics

Hello,

I have the same problem with an amd64 socket 939.
The motherboard is an asrock dual vista.

The message is "[17.330722] ACPI: getting cpuindex for acpiid 0x2.

When I start boot with -acpi=off, the problem is still the same but the error message doesn't appear.

Thanks for support.

same here, but only with -generic kernel, with i386 kernel no problem!

I have an Athlon64 3000+ and kubuntu edgy final version upgraded from dapper, all 32 bit only.

had the same problem. it seemed an acpi problem at first, but it turned out it was related to my hard drive not being properly detected. if you remove "quiet splash" from the kernel boot options (in grub) you will see that the last kernel message is "Waiting for root filesystem..." instead of "getting cpuindex of acpiid".

anyway, the way i fixed it was rebuilding the initramfs. in ubuntu you can do that by issuing this command:

update-initramfs -k 2.6.17-10-generic -c

or replace 2.6.17-10-generic with the kernel version you want to generate the initramfs for.

pablohoffman has right, it's not the real message the cpuindex!
For me the real one was:
ide0 at 0x1f0-0x1f7, 0x3f6 on irq14

Also the update-initramfs fixes the problem also for me, but don't know why the one created wasn't valid.

Hardy Heron 8.04 was recently released. It would be helpful if you could test the new release and verify if this is still an issue - http://www.ubuntu.com/testing . Please let us know your results. Thanks.

running ubuntu 8.04.1
my laptop delays for about 15/20 secs..

Do you need some more info before i go with update-initramfs?

Thanks a lot for your work!

In case update-initramfs fixes the issue it would maybe be good to have the /boot/initrd.img-2.6.24-19-generic file from before and after running the update-initramfs command. Please let the linux-source-2.6.17 task closed as this is the old kernel. The Ubuntu 8.04.1 kernel task is just "linux".

2.6.17 is the old edgy kernel, which is not supported anymore. This bug is about update-initramfs actually solving the issue, you are probably running in a different bug.
