Bug Description

Binary package hint: ubiquity

Using the first Maverick Beta iso-test Live CD for i386 I ran to the Live Desktop and then chose to install. I then chose to manually partition my 80GB drive and created about a 78GB primary for "/".

I then tried to create an extended partition but there was no option to create an extended partition.

Hang in Evan ;^)

I saved a screenshot to my flash drive if needed, but there simply is no option other than "primary" or "logical".

Maybe I should see what happens if I choose "logical"? Seems odd though since a logical can only exist within extended???????????

I'm probably done for about 8 hours.

I know you can probably go through the logs and see this but I'd forgot to mention that I have two internal drives, one 500GB SATA and a 80GB IDE. I use the 80GB drive for iso-testing.

I can toss in another internal but I currently have no USB drives available for testing.

partman doesn't offer the ability to create extended partitions explicitly. Instead, they're implicit; just create logical partitions where you want them, and an extended partition will be created to contain them as necessary.

There has been the occasional use case for creating extended partitions explicitly, but they're sufficiently rare corner cases that I think it's unlikely we will be complicating the UI further to offer this.

Thanks Colin. I was getting so tired last night things were almost a blur.

Your explanation is reasonable and sensible. Thanks again.
