Bug Description

Binary package hint: empathy

Facebook chat in Empathy now fails with a "Network Error", where the same account settings worked perfectly fine in 10.04.

I did a tcpdump, and all that happens is a DNS lookup to _xmpp-client._tcp.chat.facebook.com, which returns a CNAME to chat.facebook.com

Here is the dump:
--- start of dump ---
.5..........._xmpp-client._tcp.chat.facebook.com..!...5..........._xmpp-client._tcp.chat.facebook.com..!.................#.......<.7.glb01.sf2p.tfbnw.net.hostmaster.#...t..*0......:....<
--- end of dump ---

This is all that appears to happen, so something is not working as it should.
On my system, the dns query for that name returns:
$ host _xmpp-client._tcp.chat.facebook.com
_xmpp-client._tcp.chat.facebook.com is an alias for chat.facebook.com.
chat.facebook.com has address 69.63.181.105

So DNS is working.

I wouldn't say this bug appears all the time. But most of.

I don't assume this is FB-specific, but jabber/gabble/...-specific. I have four jabber-accounts: Facebook, GMX, Nimbuzz and Google Talk.
At the moment, all of these accounts have connection problems, while ICQ, IRC and salut work like a charm. Sometimes, when clicking on "reconnect" (Facebook), the connection seems to be established, but crashes when I click "reconnect" on another jabber-account, say, GMX.

While the described errors occured, I had the debug-window open. See attachment.

Ubuntu maverick, empathy 3.32.1-0ubuntu1:
facebook, gmx, nimbuzz and google talk work, if activated one at a time. Once I try to activate more than one of the mentioned accounts, connection problems appear.
