KDE systemsettings crashes when I click on "Desktop"

Binary package hint: kde-systemsettings

Roughly half of the time I click on the "desktop" icon in systemsettings, I get a crash.

That's a weird crash. It might be related to your other bug report 38692. lcampagn, can you describe the hardware you are using and attach your xorg.conf and Xorg's log file for when it starts up.

Attached xorg log and config.
Hardware: AMD Athlon64 3200+, 2GB memory, nVidia 6600 PCIE
I am running dapper/AMD64 with nVidia drivers supplied by linux-restricted
packages

Found out that if I run "kcmshell background" I get an empty module window
(buttons at the bottom but no controls in the window), whereas it appears
the rest of the desktop modules are working. (actually, I see this behavior
on other machines, so it may be unrelated or a separate bug entirely)

Also, if I set my background to "No picture" it _seems_ to crash less
frequently, so possibly there's a race condition that depends on the time it
takes to render the background preview image?

I can confirm the kcmshell background behavior, but I can't reproduce the crash, so these do look like separate issues.

I just created a new user on my system, and it has none of the problems I've
described here or in 38692 and 64695, so I'm guessing I just have a
corrupted kde config file.. any ideas for files I should dig in? I didn't
see anything suspicious in ~/.kde/share/config (no 0 size or garbled files
that I noticed)
