Bug Description

Binary package hint: indicator-application

10.10 Beta
Indicator Applet 0.4.6

When clicking on the battery symbol in the Indicator Applet, instead of displaying the battery level it says 'Laptop battery (estimating...)' but never provides an estimate.

The on-screen pop-up (notify-osd?) when there is a change, like unplugging AC power, is however accurate and provides the battery percentage.

could you do an apport-collect 650998 ? it's going to add the missing logs to the report, thanks.

Hi

I started the process but then got as far as Launchpad saying (in browser)

''Almost finished ...
To finish authorizing the application identified as apport-collect to
access Launchpad on your behalf you should go back to the application
window in which you started the process and inform it that you have
done your part of the process.''

Not quite sure how to 'inform it that you have done your part of the
process.' and complete the report. The Run Application window (Alt F2)
closes automatically once apport-collect 650998 is executed.

More on this bug.

At the moment, clicking on the battery status indicator (for the first time*)only highlights a box around the indicator, you then have to click a second time to get the status. The status is still false and is sometimes duplicated, shown in two lines:

Laptop battery (estimating...)
Laptop battery (estimating...)

*Once you have displayed the status once, you can redisplay it with only one click during the same session (?? I guess until you logout / shutdown and start again)

Battery state is working in gkrellm, only gnome-power-manager is broken. I can cat /proc/acpi/battery/ and (though I am no expert) looks okay, so kernel config is probably fine.

Sorry for the spam. I was not aware that appending the logs would create this lot of comments.

Interestingly, I personally can't remember having seen this in Maverick or Lucid. Only no since Natty it bothers me.

A bug that I'm experiencing since ubuntu 9.x is https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-power-manager/+bug/501500
But it's unlikely that it's related.

Thank you for helping and please contact me if I can support you.

This bug came up with ubuntu 10.10 and still exists in natty indeed. It does not exist in the current debian distro by the way.
