Bug Description

On my HP G62 laptop I cannot get a proper time to depletion of the battery. It just says Estimating... This leads to that the system wont suspend or hibernate, it will just power-off when the battery is empty.

This is also a problem with Maverick 10.10 but I thought that reporting a bug now before 11.04 it would have a chance to get fixed.

There are some other bugs on this subject: http://www.google.se/#hl=sv&source=hp&biw=958&bih=569&q=battery+estimating+hp+g62+launchpad&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&oq=&fp=83ad2d5e00507245

Hi ThomasNovin,

If you could also please test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.

Since I couldn't change kernel (simply) on my USB live install I did a real install on a USB harddrive. Updated it fully as of today but Xorg won't start.

As soon as I have fixed this (or waited for it to be fixed) I will give it a try with the vanilla kernel.

I have nearly the same issue on a System 76 Starling (star5), where the batter indicator just displayed "estimating..." indefinitely, however if I click on "estimating..." it brings me to the Power Statistics app, where it displays the amount of energy remaining just fine. I don't, however, have the suspend problem - my computer still suspends as it should.
