Bug Description

The menu items on the upper left hand side of the screen are mangled. I'm guessing you're suppose to see "Applications Places System", the firefox icon, and a question mark icon. What I am actually seeing is "blob"-plic-firefox icon-question mark icon. The "bit" of the application menu I see does work and I can select items from the list.

The items in the other 3 corners of the screen look normal, so I don't think this is a screen sizing issue. It looks like the firefox icon is dropping into the wrong location and crowding everything else.

I've seen this too on my xm; I meant to report it. I saw it with linaro-m-alip-tar-20101004-0.tar.gz I think.

I talked to the xfce folks upstream about it. They believe it's a bug in the current level of ubuntu code. When one's display is 640x480 you trip across it.

It's cosmetic not a functional issue. Still it'd be nice to address as something if left looks unprofessional in my opinion.

"current level of ubuntu code" - does that mean it's an xfce bug that's fixed in a later version of xfce?

Shouldn't the display be better than 640x480, though? It shows up on my BeagleBoard, which certainly should be able to do better than 640x480 on the DVI output. Do we need to fix the image configuration to pass a higher framebuffer resolution? (I thought we were already doing this?)

In fact, we definitely are setting the fb res; linaro-media-create spits out a boot commandline that includes this option:

   omapfb.mode=dvi:1280x720MR-16@60

so why would X come up 640x480?

I think that's the resolution I've seen this problem with. It certainly wasn't 640x480, that's for sure.

Depends on the hardware you're utilizing i think.

My Rev C4 Beagle Board runs at 640x480
My Beagle XM runs at 1280x720

I see the bug on XM at 1280x720.

(ideally, we would use EDID, not a hard-coded resolution --- my monitor isn't 16:9... but hey)

Still present in current (as of Nov 9th) builds.
