Thanks for your bug report. Which verison of gaim do you use? Can you try to get a backtrace for the crash? http://wiki.ubuntu.com/Backtrace might help with that. What were you trying to do?

Thanks Daniel. The version is the current default version on edgy.
gaim2.0.0+beta3.1-1ubuntu9. For the backtrace, I will get to you on Monday.

Jim

thank you for your work on that. What do you do to get the crash? Could you get one with libgtk2.0-0-dbg installed?

it crashes everytime when I open it. There is nothing particular I did. I will check if I have libgtk2.0-0-dbg installed nor not, if not, I will get it installed. Should I run backtrace again after I get that pkg installed or is there any other actions I need to take?

run gdb and get a new backtrace the same way you got the previous one
once it's installed

even worse after I got that gtk pkg installed. Right after I reproduced the segmentation fault, I lost control of everything. I can only move mouse, but no window can be selected, I can not type on the command anymore. I have to recycle X to get control back. So I can only perform backtrace step 1-3 and not the step 4 at this moment.

You could launch gdb in the console on ctrl-alt-f1 and switch back to ctrl-alt-f7 to get the backtrace.

Hi Daniel, can I get a step-by-step procedure on how to do this? I did
something similar like what you said before I gave up to do the backtrace
which is to launch a gdb on console1 and try to attach the gaim pid opened
on gui under another gdb copy (I have to fire up gaim under gdb, otherwise
it will segfault immediately), but it wouldn't allow me to attach the pid.

do you still have that problem? maybe you could get a valgring log (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Valgrind) for the crash?

With the recent upgrade, the segfault has gone away. Thanks for your help.
