Hard disks are not visible in the livecd

Bug Description

I insert an ubuntu livecd in my machine, and hard drives are not visible in the desktop nor in resources->computer.

my partitions are as follows:

Disk /dev/sda: 80.0 GB, 80026361856 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 9729 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes

I am seeing this -- this is apparently due to an earlier oops which causes the system not to be able to load any modules -- you can't even look at /proc/modules. There are other boot problems with the CD as well.

I did not say hard disks were not mounted -- I said they were not
visible i.e. you could not select a disk to edit the partitions on.
