Bug Description

Binary package hint: gconf

"GSettings Data Conversion" crashes every time I log in, triggering Apport. Upon attempting to report this bug, Apport gives the following message:
"The problem cannot be reported:

The program crashed on an assertion failure, but the message could not be retrieved. Apport does not support reporting these crashes."
Since the title of the dialog says "Problem in gconf2," that's the package I used ubuntu-bug on.

ProblemType: Bug
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 11.04
Package: gconf2 2.32.1-2ubuntu2
ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.38-5.32-generic 2.6.38-rc6
Uname: Linux 2.6.38-5-generic x86_64
Architecture: amd64
Date: Sat Feb 26 17:07:17 2011
InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 10.10 "Maverick Meerkat" - Release amd64 (20101007)
ProcEnviron:

 LANG=en_US.UTF-8
 SHELL=/bin/bash

I am unable to follow the directions since neiter a gconf-dbg/dbgsym or
gsettings-data-convert-dbg/dbgsym package are available.

Is this still going to be useful since it has been two days and I have
restarted my computer quite a few times (I can't leave it on for too long
without any OS--Ubuntu and Windows--freezing up or otherwise acting
erractically, so between restarting due to crashes, installing new things,
etc. and having to keep it off at night, several restarts have been done)?

tell.

I experienced this performing upgrade testing this AM, but shortly after 'gsettings-desktop-schemas (0.1.7-2ubuntu2)' was available on the US server (by the time I'd located this bug report), and after installing the updates the problem was resolved :^)

was the fix included in the new upstream version?

Reason I ask is because:

I am seeing this problem in todays CD (3/19/2011). On the first crash it won't report the problem because of outdated packages. In the 64bit version I go the dialog attached. After an apt-get update/upgrade it did report and I found I already filed a duplicate of this (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/738289)

During upgrade testing, I Installed 10.10 i386 fresh on a Macbook Pro 6.2, updated all packages, then upgraded (dist-upgrade) to Natty and I get this error right after each login now.

Freshly installed the Daily from 3/20/2011. The error is still there. What confuses me is that Sebastien talked about gsettings-desktop-schemas (0.1.7-2ubuntu2), but the version that is installed here is 2.91.91-1 ?

Indeed, however according to this:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gsettings-desktop-schemas/+bug/736159

It is fixed upstream, so we just have to wait for that.
