no audio with linaro-ubuntu-desktop + beagleXm

Bug Description

The linaro-ubuntu-desktop image does not emit it's start up sound nor was I able to get audio out of Rhythm box.

This was using the 03102011 hwpack_omap3-x11 and the linaro-ubuntu-desktop image dated 03102011

It might be worth trying just aplay from the console, try to see if the problem is coming from alsa side or pulse. What does cat /proc/asound/cards say?

This is probably a case of the outputs being muted, check using alsamixer.

On my Xm. I booted up the alip image from the current beta.

I tested out my power speakers. Other devices are able to power them.

I have tried aplay. Nothing.

I installed the xfce-mixer upped the various nobs and selections across the board.

tried aplay again. Nothing.

I installed acobra (xmms2) also nothing.

I then booted up my Beagle C4, and prompted ran into bug #732912. Needless to say I tried aplay from the serial cons and no audio was produced. I'm going to see what i can do with the beagle tutorial kurt posted and at least get my beagle C4 working and then take that SD card, boot on the Xm and see what if anything that might do on the Xm.

Sound works on Beagle-xm with latest Linaro kernel and stock ALSA userspace. The mixer controls for the output jack on the board are the "Headset" ones.

There is a possibility that bug #760919 is involved here, suggest trying the workarounds or patches mentioned there.
