Bug Description

Binary package hint: ubiquity

Testing ubuntu desktop i386 20110329.1. Timezone is properly determined. After fetching the timezone, one has to enter your name and password. This is problematic if the keyboard-mapping isn't ok (I'm using a AZERTY-layout i.s.o QWERTY-layout).

Even if the layout is entered @ booting the cd by means of F3, then the mapping ain't ok at and after installation

It sounds like the keyboard layout page crashed. Can you please run the installer again, press 'Try Ubuntu', open a terminal and type `ubiquity -d`. Run the install until you get to the user account creation page, then run `apport-collect 745635`.

Thanks!

Today the installer asks for the keyboard-layout (I tried this several times). I encountered only once that the installer wasn't asking for the keyboard layout (this occurred when I set the keyboard-mapping beforehand by F3).

I noticed that one can't cancel the installation when one wants to go back. The installer then hangs in the menu where the timezone is being requested (see screenshots).

Second remark : From time to time when one selects (try ubuntu) ubuntu starts up with a 'blank' desktop (see screenshot)

The installation-screen has an almost hidden network-icon top-right (see screenshot).

When selecting Belgium as a preferred keyboard-mapping in the first column, the second column is not always updated and the installer jumps after a while to the next screen. When one goes back to the keyboard-mapping-screen, then the second column is properly set.

I'm closing this report because the keyboard-layout is fixed according to comment #13
The problem with the fallback in virtualbox you mentioned in comment #13 is fixed as well.
The issue with the 'hidden icons' in comment #15 is bug 745681 and is 'fixed release'

If you're still facing the 'hang issue' could you please run the installation with 'ubiquity -d' and file a new report with the command:
$ ubuntu-bug ubiquity
from system you're experiencing this issue. Thanks.
