Bug Description

unity 3.8.2-0ubuntu1, Ubuntu Natty daily live 20110404

1. Launch Gimp.
2. If bug 750229 has been fixed, while Gimp is launching, do stuff in another window so that Gimp does not take focus.
3. When the Ubuntu button goes blue, click it to find out why.

What happens: Clicking the button fades out the launcher, making it practically impossible to see why the button went blue.

What should happen: either
* the Ubuntu button never goes blue, or
* when it is blue, clicking the Ubuntu button does something to show why it is blue.

Another possible solution, if the launcher is kept inactive when the dash is open (as in 3.8.2), could be to turn the *hot corner* to blue, instead of the ubuntu icon. Although personally I'd prefer to be able to access the launcher also when I click the bfb / press Super.

Yeah, I found this really confusing the first few times too (before I realized it was actually a window urgency hint). When the messaging menu icon goes blue I click on it to open the menu and find out why, so my natural instinct is to click on the BFB when it turns blue as well.

Good catch on this. I can think of ways to address it, but I think we
may have to live with the current behaviour for Natty.

I'd like to see a patch for this option - a neat blue triangle in just
the corner, along the top, side and diagonal, 5px. If we can get it,
let's test it. I don't think it warrants scrambling the folk who are
currently focused on crashes, though.
